Mitsubishi Lancer EVO VII-IX - front turbular subframe
VERKLINE WAS-901 Front Tubular Subframe - Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VII-IX (2001-2007)
Lancer Evolution VII (2001-2002), VIII (2003-2005), IX (2005-2007) - CT9A chassis - Complete front subframe replacement
The VERKLINE WAS-901 is a T45 seamless steel tubular front subframe designed for all Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VII, VIII, and IX variants (2001-2007, CT9A chassis) that replaces the factory stamped steel subframe, providing 37% weight reduction (8.5 kg vs 13.5 kg OEM) with significantly higher torsional rigidity. The EVO platform places higher lateral and longitudinal forces on the front subframe than FWD platforms due to AWD system loads - the WAS-901 is engineered specifically for this demand envelope.
The WAS-901 ships as a complete bolt-on kit with aluminum and steel steering rack brackets, mounting hardware and all fasteners with specified torque values. The steering rack mounts rigidly to the subframe - no compliant bushings - ensuring zero deflection at the rack under steering load. T45 tubing delivers 700-900 MPa tensile strength - exceeding Chromoly 4130 - and is the same material specified for FIA-homologated roll cages. Revision E is the current production revision. CRITICAL: WAS-901 is NOT compatible with Whiteline 26mm front anti-roll bar. CRITICAL: Adjustable front wishbones (camber/caster capable) are REQUIRED for correct geometry tuning - the VERKLINE WAS-903-904 tubular wishbones are recommended.
The OEM subframe problem - structural compliance under AWD loads
The Lancer EVO VII-IX subframe is stamped sheet metal designed for cost-effective mass production - not for the extreme loads generated by the EVO's AWD system. Every suspension pickup point lives on this subframe. The EVO's AWD architecture places significantly higher lateral and longitudinal forces on the front structure than equivalent FWD platforms. When the subframe deflects under these loads, your carefully set camber, caster, toe and roll centre geometry shifts. No spring rate, damper setting or alignment change can compensate for a subframe that moves - because the problem sits below the suspension, not within it.
Poorly designed kinematics cannot be fixed by springs, bars or dampers. The subframe is the foundation - if it moves, everything above it is compromised. The WAS-901 replaces this foundation with a structure that does not deflect under AWD loads.
Product Highlights
The WAS-901 weighs just 8.5 kg - saving approximately 5 kg over the factory EVO subframe. That is a 37% weight reduction. The savings come from T45 seamless tubular construction - the same aerospace-grade carbon manganese steel specified for FIA-homologated roll cages. T45 delivers minimum 620 MPa yield strength and 700-900 MPa tensile strength - exceeding Chromoly 4130 tubing commonly used in aftermarket motorsport fabrication. The result is a subframe that weighs less than two-thirds of the original while providing dramatically higher torsional rigidity.
The primary benefit of a tubular subframe is not weight - it is geometric consistency. Every suspension pickup point is held in a fixed position relative to the chassis, regardless of the lateral, longitudinal, and combined loads generated by the EVO's AWD system. Your instant centres, roll centre heights, camber curves, and side view swing arm geometry remain where they were designed to be - throughout every phase of a corner, under hard braking, and on full throttle. This means your alignment settings, your anti-dive behaviour, and your bump steer curves all work as intended, not as approximations that shift with every chassis flex.
The WAS-901 is a complete bolt-on replacement - no welding required. It bolts directly to the CT9A chassis at OEM mounting points using the supplied hardware with specified torque values. The kit includes aluminum and steel steering rack brackets providing a rigid rack mount with zero compliance, plus all fasteners with torque specifications. The tubular open geometry enables wishbone replacement without subframe removal and provides significantly improved engine and drivetrain service access.
The WAS-901 is designed specifically for the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VII (2001-2002), VIII (2003-2005), and IX (2005-2007) platforms. All three generations share the CT9A chassis and compatible front subframe attachment points. Revision E is the current production revision, proven across track use, road applications, and drift setups.
